Our second Cyclosportive is on Sunday 9th June aptly named "The Nutter Challenge" as it puts you through your paces throughout Pendle Witch territory and the Trough of Bowland. The going gets tough from an early stage as you follow one of three stunning and challenging routes via the hills, peaks and troughs of Pendle and the Ribble Valley.
Pendle Hill is in an area known as Pendleside and its summit is 557 metres above sea level - you'll start your route from Burnley one of Pendleside's towns. The Pennines are to the East and the Forest of Bowland to the Northwest, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
The panoramic scenery will literally take your breath away and you'll have chance to enjoy some historic landmarks along the routes - you may be intrigued by the Pendle Witch trials of 1612, when Alice Nutter was one of ten witches tried and condemned to death in Lancaster.
If you have time to make a phone call, stop off at the payphone in Dunsop Bridge and read the plaque which says "You are calling from the BT payphone that marks the Centre of Great Britain".
In the beautiful Ribble Valley you'll pass through Downham, location of several films and dramas, for example "Whistle down the Wind" and "Born and Bred".
So the Nutter Challenge, full of dramatic scenery and steep ascents is yours, if you dare...
We have created two routes, aimed at experienced and novice sportive particpants.
The main route (Route 1) "The Trough" is a challenging 160km route up to and around Lancaster before heaing back.
Our mid route (Route 2) "The Spellbinder" is just over 100km.
Full maps of the routes and further details are available to view via each route's page.
